As we approach the end of the season this was a league catch-up week for two teams and a couple of friendlies…

Coventry City F.C. U12s   1 v 2   AFC Rushden & Diamonds U12s
Played at Celtic Ajax F.C., Warwick

The third time these teams have met and another cracking match. Both sides defended very well and moved the ball around the small pitch. Despite early chances at both ends, it wasn’t until mid-way through the second period that the ball was moved quickly towards the Coventry goal and a fantastic volley from Will Jones to break the deadlock. Arek Rozyczka got his reward for yet another very busy match by rifling home in the third quarter. Diamonds had to dig deep during the final period but Coventry, through Ciaran M,ates who was exceptional for the home side, grabbed a consolation goal. Congratulations to both sides – another fantastic advert for the JPL.

Kidderminster F.C. U13s   4 v 2   AFC Rushden & Diamonds U13s
At Kidderminster Harriers F.C.

Carter Brophy had completed analysis on the team so we had an idea of what to expect and how to set up.

The lads decided to start playing 4-5-1 and the challenge was to get the ball wide and attack there full backs. Initially Kidderminster put us under pressure but when we started to get a foothold and find our feet we looked to exploit the wide areas. An unfortunate recurrence of an injury to Ben Bowyer saw him only play the first 15 minutes but we had both keepers and Dan Edwards went in and played well.

The opening goal game when we fed the ball wide to Callum Newton who slid it down the line to Taran Dhaliwal who caused Kidderminster problems throughout this encounter. He beat two players and then was brought down in the box. Taran dusted himself down and coolly dispatched the penalty to make it 1-0. Kidderminster replied in the 2nd period and both the forwards were mobile and made clever runs and one took a chance to level it up.

Both teams looked to play good football and Robbie Meadows restored Diamonds lead when for the second week in a row he scored from the edge of the 18 yard box. We were in the ascendancy and created a number of other chances but could not get the third. Kidderminster rode the storm and on the counter attack there centre-forward beat our centre-back on the edge of our box and rifled the ball past Dan Edwards to equal the score. Kiddie got on top in the third period and controlled the game in large parts winning corners and free kicks. The pressure paid off and a good corner was flicked on the Kidderminster to take the lead and they then added another to make it 4-2. The Diamonds lads kept going and worked the ball from back to front in the best move of the game. Finlay Little’s great attempt to find the far corner was well saved by the Kidderminster goal keeper.

The game was another good advert for the JPL. A good quality and played in the right manner.
