Elite Squad achieve Success in Futsal Tournament

The AFC Rushden and Diamonds Elite Squad won a well contested Futsal Tournament in Kettering organised by the Northamptonshire FA.

With a 100% record in the four team Round-robin tournament, the Elite squad topped the table in a highly competitive competition.

Elite Manager Howard Willmott was pleased with the progress of the team. “The three games offered us numerous challenges over the course of the evening, and we didn’t have everything our own way which meant we had to find solutions in each game. Our final game especially was a case in point, where we had to come back from being 4-1 down. We eventually came back to win 6-4 in the game, but this required the players to adapt and overcome stubborn opposition, which was pleasing.

“The event was part of a larger initiative by the county FA to grow the game locally and the club were delighted to play their small part in this programme. With two adult leagues in the county and a women’s league the game is being well received locally.

‘The game is a great development tool for players, and offers something in each stage of a players development, from when a child starts playing and the technical aspect of the game, to the tactical and game management disciplines that happen further down the development path. We certainly gained a lot during our games this evening in what was a high octane environment including finding ways to win in pressured situations.”

The Elite squad are back in action on Saturday 2nd September with an away game against Bedworth.
