Southern Football League Division One Central

Fleet Town FC v AFC Rushden & Diamonds

AFC Rushden & Diamonds will make one of their longest trips of the season at the weekend when they travel to face Fleet Town FC on Saturday. The Blues struggled when the two teams met in October at the Dog & Duck, with the Diamonds winning 5-2 (report here), but they have an impressive home record, with seven victories at Calthorpe Park.

Our Opponents

Fleet Town FC was formed in 1890 and after time spent in local leagues they joined the Athenian League in 1979. In 2004, they began a period of switching between the Isthmian League and differing regional divisions of the Southern League, and prior to this season they were in the Southern League Division One South & West where they ended up in 19th position.

Their website is here and their twitter feed here. They are managed by Craig Davis and play in Sky Blue / White Shirts and Dark Blue shorts.

Getting There

AFC Rushden & Diamonds Travel is running a players’ / supporters’ coach for this fixture – details here.

For directions for the journey of around 90 miles to Calthorpe Park, Crookham Road, Fleet, Hampshire GU51 5FA see here.

Local directions provided by the club are as follows “The ground is situated next to Calthorpe Park and is accessed via driveway on Crookham Road, Fleet. Postcode GU51 5FA also includes some nearby residential roads, make sure you are looking for Crookham Road in Sat Nav. From London and the North travel via M3, exit at junction 4a, follow signs into Fleet (Town Centre), past Railway station and into town, continue along Fleet Road to the major crossroads by Oatsheaf public house. Carry on across lights into Crookham Road, follow road down hill, the entrance road is on right, just past Glen Road (on the left), the club has its own car park, but if this is full, please use suitable road parking away from the ground or town centre public car park, not in front of residential properties in the entrance road.”

Getting there by public transport is fairly straightforward as the ground is close to Fleet Town centre – although a local bus #10 from the station may be of benefit – see traveline.info for door to door directions.
