The biggest strength of AFC Rushden & Diamonds is our magnificent supporters.

What we achieved in the first 12 months of the club was nothing short of amazing. Every one of us is a fan and together we want to achieve as much as we can with our club. We hope to welcome others “back to the fold” in the next few weeks who may not have been to the Under-18 games last season, or attended the pre-season games, or the first game at the Dog and Duck some weeks ago due to holiday commitments.

Many fans reported how smoothly things ran at our first game at the Dog and Duck, with those supporters who were helping out  going that extra mile to cover the work required. Going into our next games, especially when we start having midweek fixtures, there are still many ways that fans can help out, even if the role that they would like to help with appeared already “in hand” at that first game. It might be the person performing that role is also doing other jobs, and so it will help with their workload if somebody else is involved.

During the close season period a fantastic bunch of volunteers have been working tirelessly down at the Dog & Duck on various projects ready for our first season of men’s football – evidence of this is already to be seen in the Dale Roberts Bar, the Peter De Banke Terrace, the walkways around the ground and in many other areas. Within the rest of the club people were also working very hard to set up the new academy, the ladies team, implementing the new swipe-card system and everything that goes with it, to secure the best players for the senior team that we possibly could, to get the best sponsors, to continue to publicise ourselves and  to keep you all informed about everything which is going on. This has continued during the initial part of the season.

All of this work will benefit the club during the rest of the season, but we are always looking for additional people to help spread the load amongst our band of volunteers, with specific focus on our historic inaugural season.

We need additional helpers for our ongoing maintenance / upgrade crew to work on site issues at the Dog and Duck. You don’t need to have experience – just be able to help with the general cleaning or general maintenance work as we work with WTFC to make sure the Dog and Duck passes the relevant ground inspections. Even if you can only spare an hour it will really help. If you can spare some time – please email jim@afcdiamonds.com to let him know – or speak to him at a game.

We also need people to support the excellent efforts of those who are already assisting on a match day in the following areas:

a) Turnstile Operators

b) Programme Sellers

c) Stewards (including Car Park stewarding)

d) Bar Staff

e) Catering Staff

f) Pitch Maintenance (e.g Half-time pitch repairs)

g) Match Day Entertaining - from Dazzler to Match-Day Mascots

h) Help with the AFC R&D Shop

i) Post Game Tidy-Up Crew

j) Help with video production / post-production

k) Radio Diamonds Production Team

Many hands make light work and we would like as many people as possible to take a turn on something, so if you are able to give up just one hour per season to operate the turnstiles before one match, that would really help. If you are then prepared to give up an extra hour to come and serve tea in Ann’s Pantry, Burgers with Haydn or beer in Dale’s Bar or the club house  that will also be a great help. If for one match per season you are happy to be a steward and watch the game in a hi-vis jacket that will be much appreciated.

If we all donate a small amount of our time it will really help to share the load.

If you’d like to help on a match day, please email chas@afcdiamonds.com and register as a volunteer, or speak to him at a game.

To recognise the value of our volunteers we are also introducing a Volunteer Rewards Points scheme, allowing you to earn extra discounts on top of the existing members’ discount scheme – you can read about this in the members’ area of the website.

With the help of volunteers we can make match days successful both on and off the pitch – It’s our club – let’s make it amazing!
