Following a poll on AFCDiamonds.com, the winner of the January / February 2014 Player of the Month award is Joe Henderson. In one of the closest contests to date Joe picks up the combined monthly award following his notable contribution in defence in the four games played during the period. He was called upon to deputise firstly for Arron Parkinson and then Jamal Clarke during these games, and in the bruising encounter at Cogenhoe he also moved into a full-back role to cover for an injury to Joe Merrill.
The award is sponsored by P.W. House Jewellers of Rushden, who are continuing a long tradition of sponsoring this award, going back many years with R&DFC. Their business has been part of life in Rushden High Street for the last 60 years.
The award was presented by Diamonds’ Manager Mark Starmer before the game against Holbeach United on Saturday afternoon – shortly before Joe celebrated the award by scoring his opening goal for the club.
The poll for March 2014 will be available on AFCDiamonds.com shortly after the final game is played in that month.
