Post-16 Scholarship Scheme Announced

AFC Rushden & Diamonds are pleased to announce the launch of their post-16 scholarship scheme in association with Malcolm Arnold Academy, Northampton. The scheme will offer students the chance to study their preferred post-16 course alongside a dedicated football programme from September 2014.

Gareth Ivett, Head of Academy, said “This scholarship is an important addition to our Youth Development Programme. The increased contact time players will have with coaching staff will not only accelerate their development as players but will also provide us with the ability to deliver a holistic curriculum developing the individual.

“In designing the offer it was always our priority to be mindful of the academic needs of the players. We understand that football players will desire a range of educational opportunities, and we felt that we could not make an offer that limited players to only one level of qualification. We have worked hard, in partnership with the school, to be in a position to offer 4 different levels of academic qualifications. The decision to provide this range of educational opportunities is purely player focussed as we feel it will not inhibit players with differing academic strengths from applying. We are also keen to provide a range of realistic exit routes from the Scholarship into post-18 education.

“I am very pleased to be working with Malcolm Arnold Academy. They have fully embraced the concept of combining elite level sport with a quality academic offer. Their facilities are superb and we are excited to see how our partnership will grow over the year. This is a very exciting time and a great opportunity for any young talented player.”

AFC Rushden & Diamonds Chairman Ralph Burditt added “I am delighted that we have been able to team up with the Malcolm Arnold Academy to offer this course. It will allow students to concentrate on both academic and footballing excellence without having to prioritise one over the other. It is also another important step forward for the club as we continue to strive to provide opportunities for local young players to succeed.”

There will be an open evening at Malcolm Arnold Academy on Wednesday February 12th 2014 from 7.30pm to which any student interested in following the programme is invited. This informative evening will give you the opportunity to meet MAA and AFC R&D staff, view the facilities on offer and discuss the academic pathways open to you.
