Potton United v AFC Rushden & Diamonds
Saturday 27th April 2013 – 3pm
ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Division One
The Hollow, Biggleswade Road, Potton, Beds SG19 2LU
AFC Rushden & Diamonds make their penultimate away trip of their inaugural season when they travel to East Bedfordshire to face Potton United in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Division One (Kick Off 3pm). Following their draw with Eynesbury Rovers in midweek the Diamonds still have their fate in their own hands, but they also know that they cannot afford to lose any of their remaining three games.
Parking in the ground will be for players, officials and disabled spectators only, with parking for all other spectators in an adjacent field (the entrance is 50 yards after the BP garage). The ground and clubhouse will be open from 1pm so they request that supporters do not arrive before this time.
Admission is £4 adults and £2 concessions. Programmes are £1. An outside catering van serving hot food and drinks will be located in the corner of the ground
The two teams first met at the Dog & Duck at the start of March, when the Diamonds recorded a 1-0 victory courtesy of a goal from Jack Wisniewski – report here.
Details of any issues with respect to the weather / pitch conditions etc will be here or on Twitter (@AFCRD).
Our Opponents
Potton United FC was formed in 1943, and joined the South Midlands League after the war. They remained there for 10 years before joining the UCL Premier where they remained until relegated shortly into the new millennium.
After a promising start to the campaign, when they recorded four league wins in their first six games, they then went on a run of 20 league games without a win. Since their defeat by the Diamonds they have won three on the next seven games, and also drawn at Eynesbury Rovers.
The club nickname is the Royals, and their current club website is here. They are currently managed by Darren Staniforth.
Getting There
For directions for the 34 mile trip from the Dog and Duck to The Hollow (SG19 2LU) see here. See above for car parking information.
Those wishing to use public transport starting in Northants should head to Bedford from where they can get a bus to Sandy and then change for a bus to Potton – use the Traveline website for door to door directions. For those heading from further afield taking a train to Sandy will then leave a short bus ride to Potton.
Those who want to make the visit into a day trip can either visit Sandy or the local RSPB Reserve / Lodge.
Some AFC R&D fans who followed R&DFC may have made a trip to the Hollow almost 10 years ago in August 2003 for a pre-season friendly involving mostly youth team players.
