Academy Match Summaries for Saturday 18th October

Due to the JPL indoor Futsal tournament in Swindon, minimal league fixtures were played this weekend, with only the U16s in action.

Aylestone Park U16s   2 v 1   AFC Rushden & Diamonds U16s
Played at Aylestone Park F.C., Leicester.

Nip & tuck game, at times scrappy, with few chances and played out mostly in midfield. Aylestone took the lead in the 1st period, adding a second in the 3rd period. Thomas made the game interesting in the final period pulling a goal back for Diamonds. The reverse of this fixture is next week where AFC R&D will be looking to make home advantage pay and gain the 3pts.

With the absence of a league match, the U13s organised a friendly verses Harborough Town.

Harborough Town   2 v 13   AFC Rushden & Diamonds U13s

Special mention to Oliver Hamilton as it was his first game this season following an injury and to Alex Rust who scored his first goals for the club.

As the score line suggests the game was a one sided affair but it did take AFC the whole of the first period to get in to the game and find their rhythm as Harborough caught us in possession in our own third and punished us twice. End of first period 2-2.

From then it really was all one way traffic and we played some good football playing the ball through the thirds and keeping the ball. We have been working on changing the tempo and dragging the opposition out of shape and then exploiting the space behind. This the lads did very well throughout the remaining three periods and continually created overloads to exploit and we created around 25-30 good goal scoring opportunities.

Harborough’s attitude was first class throughout and they continued to work and battle.

Goal scorers:

Ed Farrell 4
Dan Lyons 3
Carter Brophy 1
Robbie Meadows 1
Oliver Hamilton 2
Alex Rust 2
