AFC Kempston Rovers v AFC Rushden & Diamonds

AFC Rushden & Diamonds make a short trip into Bedfordshire on Tuesday evening to face AFC Kempston Rovers in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division. After the last-minute drama of the game at the weekend this game will represent a significant test for Diamonds’ title aspirations, as they will be facing a team with an impressive home record – after losing their first game at Hillgrounds Road they have only lost once more, back in mid-November to Wisbech, and have recorded impressive wins over Cogenhoe and Yaxley.

The Bar and ground will be open from 6pm. Admission will be charged at £6.00 Adults, £3.00 concessions and Under 16’s £1.00.

Brad Harris’ late goal on Saturday was the Diamonds 99th goal in the league this season, so the Diamonds will be looking to reach their century on Tuesday evening.

Please monitor AFC Rushden & Diamonds Twitter feed (@AFCRD) if the weather conditions suggests the fixture may be in any doubt.

Our Opponents

AFC Kempston Rovers were formed in 2002 when three local football clubs Kempston Rovers, Kempston Colts and Kempston Town joined forces to pool resources under the name AFC Kempston. The original Kempston Rovers were formed back in 1884.

The current club won promotion to the UCL Premier in after winning the Division One title in 2010-11.

Their club colours are red and white striped shirts and black shorts, and they are co-managed by Jimmy Stoyles and Gary Flinn. The Walnutboys club website ishere and their Twitter feed here. Their nickname is based on the town having a famous walnut orchard back in the 19th century which became the site of one of the original club’s grounds after the orchard was destroyed in a blizzard.

The Walnutboys have improved their league position after seeing three points deducted from their total on a technicality and are now chasing a top-6 place in the league. They have only lost two games at Hillgrounds Road, winning 11 games there. After facing the Diamonds they will face Wisbech Town at the weekend. Earlier in the season the Diamonds recorded a 5-1 victory at the Dog & Duck – report here.
