AFC R&D U18s / MAA 0-1 Arnold Hill Academy

AFC Rushden & Diamonds U18s / Malcom Arnold Academy are out of the English Schools Trophy with a 1-0 defeat to Arnold Hill Academy in the round of last 32.

The scholars had had quite a comfortable passage through to the 5th round of the competition but a poor performance on the day resulted in the academy missing out on the quarter-finals.

The game opened up as a cagey affair as two evenly matches teams did battle for a place in the quarters.

It was a game where chances were few and far between and it would be no great surprise that a single goal would be enough to win the game for either side.

Unfortunately for the scholars it would be Arnold Hill who went through. On 75 minutes, a ball was played through on Arnold Hill’s left, Ben Peaks, playing at right-back, tried to intercept the pass but the ball rolled underneath his foot and the winger slotted the ball under goalkeeper Kacper Watroba to make it 1-0 to the visitors.

The only real noteable chance in the game for Diamonds was after going behind. Luke Garner flicked the ball on nicely to Matt Pinder, and in this situation Pinder usually takes his chances, but he wasn’t able to on this occasion.

It was a poor performance from the scholars we didn’t really show their full capability and must now turn their attentions to the league and the Quarter-Final of the David Joyce Cup.
