AFC Rushden & Diamonds Ladies
AFC Rushden and Diamonds Ladies enjoyed a terrific inaugural 2012/13 season, winning promotion to the Northamptonshire Division 1, losing only one game along the way. But with promotion has come a steep learning curve this season, and the step up has been a challenging one, not helped by the loss of key players at the beginning of the season, meaning starting the campaign with a relatively new squad. But speak to the squad members and all you will hear is positivity, with new coach Mark Watts in place, the players are getting their heads down, and training hard to improve, whilst also strengthening the squad. And it is this passion that sees them looking to get more ladies involved with the club. As more and more people are looking to get involved in the sport, thanks to more TV coverage, the club needs to be able to expand to cater for increased demand. Claire Stancliffe said: “We are a self funded club with players paying weekly subs, we are looking to expand the female section of the club to create opportunities within the local area”.
