AFC Rushden & Diamonds Sign Striker

AFC Rushden & Diamonds are pleased to announce the capture of striker Alfie Taylor, who becomes the third signing of what promises to be a very busy summer in the transfer market for the club.

The 23 year old joins with a wealth of experience at a higher level; Starting his career at Wellingborough Town, Alfie went on to play UCL Premier football for Northampton Spencer, scoring 23 league goals in the 2008/9 season and Cogenhoe United, bagging 22 in the league and 30 in all competitions for The Cooks the following year. More recently, Alfie has regularly featured in the Southern League for Brackley Town, Daventry Town and Woodford Utd, with his busy 2011/12 campaign yielding 10 goals in all competitions for The Reds.

Speaking exclusively to www.afcdiamonds.com after putting pen to paper, Alfie said “I am very excited to be joining the club, I spoke a couple of days ago to the coaching staff and the manager and I’m really excited with what is going on at the club. The Rushden & Diamonds name is big and obviously the fans will be delighted with the progress the club has made and I want to be a part of that.”

When asked what Diamonds fans should expect from Alfie Taylor this season, he replied simply with “Goals! I’m a confident player, I’m quick I like to get behind the defence. I have scored goals everywhere I have played and I target myself to achieve over 20 goals a season.”

“I have worked with Scott and Peaksey before and as soon as they got involved here they were on my case, they are good blokes and another reason why I joined.”

“I thrive playing in front of big crowds, of course not every week, so it will be great to do that on a regular basis.”

Chairman Ralph Burditt added, “I am delighted that we have been able to complete this signing so quickly. From our very first conversations with regards to assembling the senior squad, the management team highlighted Alfie to me as one of their key targets and I think it speaks volumes for the club that he has had no hesitation in putting pen to paper. I’ve spoken with Alfie on a couple of occasions now and he seems like a really nice lad. I think that the supporters will take to him and obviously his goalscoring record speaks for itself.”

In addition to Taylor, former AFC R&D Under 18 players Ashley Foulger, Ashley Meeks and Louis Smith have all signed for the senior team having been offered positions by manager Mark Starmer following their successful campaign last term.
