AFC Rushden & Diamonds representatives will visit number 10 Downing street next week as guests of the Prime Minister for the Community Champions reception. Chairman Ralph Burditt and Vice Chairman Jon Ward were nominated to attend the reception as guests of prospective parliamentary candidate Tom Pursglove.
Ralph and Jon will also meet with Wellingborough MP Peter Bone to discuss the current issues facing the club.
Chairman Ralph Burditt told afcdiamonds.com “I was surprised and pleased to receive the invitation, for which I had no idea that Tom had put us forward. I am delighted that the club is being recognised for the great work which our many volunteers do week, in week out to further football in the local area. It’s also a great opportunity for our voice to be heard with respect to key issues facing the club right now, among which is our search for a permanent home.”
Peter Bone MP added: “I am really delighted that the senior officials from AFC Rushden & Diamonds are having the chance to go to Downing Street to raise issues connected to the club. I am also very pleased that they will be meeting with me, and Tom Pursglove, the Conservative Candidate for Corby & East Northamptonshire, prior to the event.”
Tom Pursglove also said: “When the Prime Minister asked me to put two names forward to come to Downing Street with me, Ralph and Jon were an obvious choice. As a keen sportsman myself, I know just how much good work AFC Rushden & Diamonds do in our community – we always need to support local clubs and I look forward to us being able to tell the Prime Minister of all the excellent opportunities the club provides, particularly for local young people.”
