The competition involves the 11 Northants FA affiliated non-league teams at Step 5 level or above. Kettering, Sileby and Daventry went out of the competition in the first round. See here for the full draw details).

Should the tie be level after 90 minutes then extra time will NOT be played, and the game will go directly to a penalty shootout.

This is an all-pay game. Pricing for this game has been confirmed as standard cup pricing of £6 Adults, £3 Concessions (Over 60s, students, U16s) and £1 U8s as detailed here.

Our Opponents

Brackley Town was formed in 1890, and after progressing through the Hellenic League and Southern League they reached Conference North level in 2012, missing out on promotion to the Conference in the end-of-season playoffs in 2013-14. This season has been less successful to date, with the team currently in the bottom half of the table.

The Saints play in red and white stripes, and they are managed by ex-R&DFC favourite Jon Brady, whose assistant is R&DFC legend Darren Collins. Their club website is here and their Twitter feed here.

The Saints’ playing staff include ex-R&DFC players Billy Turley and Greg Pearson

Diamonds fans may recall that RDFC made many appearances in the Hillier Cup, and you can see a record of those appearances in the RDFC Archive here – with a report on the last time they won this competition by defeating the Saints here.

Although AFC Rushden & Diamonds have faced Brackley in a pre-Season friendly, there were several meetings between R&DFC and Brackley in the Hillier Cup, as follows:

The game in April 2008 was the Hillier Cup final, and the Diamonds had to recover from a goal down to see Chris Hope lift the Trophy following a last minute winner from Lee Tomlin (who had spent time at Brackley the earlier that season). A strong Diamonds team that evening was: Martyn Margarson, Curtis Osano, Phil Gulliver, Chris Hope(capt), Curtis Woodhouse, Andy Burgess, Michael Rankine, Dean Howell, Michael Corcoran (Jamie Beecroft 67), Abdou El-Kholti (Lawrence Lambley 72), Sam Smith (Lee Tomlin 52).

Last season the Diamonds entered the competition for the first time, but went out of the competition at the first hurdle, losing 2-1 to Wellingborough Town – report here.
