AFC Rushden & Diamonds v Chalfont St Peter

AFC Rushden & Diamonds will play their third home game of the Southern League Division One campaign on Saturday with the visit of Chalfont St Peter FC to the Dog & Duck. The Saints are one of the early front runners in the Division, so this game will represent a stiff test for the Diamonds – see here for the current league table.

Details of the Diamonds first season in the Southern Football League Division One Central can be found on the fixture list here.

The match is sponsored by Hevey Building Supplies, who are Northampton’s largest independent builders merchant, and who are the club’s Main Sponsor for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.

Please note that there has been extensive remodelling of both the pedestrian and vehicular access to the ground over the summer – please follow designated routes. Our Opponents

The Saints were founded in 1926 as mainly a juniors club but with the efforts of motivated volunteers they eventually began to see on-field success culminating in the 1952  Berks & Bucks FA Intermediate Cup.

Senior status followed and the team began to progress through the Parthenon League, London League, Spartan League (1963-1975) and Athenian League (1976-1984) before spending 20 years in the Isthmain League, including their 1987-88 championship season. In 2006, Chalfont St Peter left the Isthmian for the step 5 Spartan South Midlands League after the  FA restructured step 4. Their six-year stay in the Spartan South was accompanied by consistent on-field success (a 60% win percentage) and culminated with their championship winning 2010-11 season and the most successful season in their history. Promotion to the Southern League Division 1 Central followed, with the team consistently finishing middle of the table from 2011 until the present.

Danny Edwards has been managing the team for 12 seasons now, with 258 games and 107 victories for The Saints up until the beginning of this season. Chalfont’s strip is red shirt, green shorts and red socks. Their website is here and their twitter feed here.
