Tuesday 22nd December 2015

AFC Rushden & Diamonds v Egham Town

AFC Rushden & Diamonds will face high-flying Egham Town on Tuesday evening at the Dog and Duck in a Southern League Division One Central fixture. The Sarnies are on a good run of form, having won at high-flying St Ives on Saturday. That win took them back into one of the play-off spots. Although the Diamonds lost top spot in the table on Saturday, they have a chance to return to the top of the table on Tuesday.

Details of the Diamonds first season in the Southern Football League Division One Central can be found on the fixture list here.

Please note that there has been extensive remodelling of both the pedestrian and vehicular access to the ground over the summer – please follow designated routes. There is also continuing work in London Road which will also result in some local parking restrictions and pedestrian access alterations.

Our Opponents

Egham Town FC was formed in 1963 with support from the local council to give them access to a recreation ground where they still play. After spells in local leagues they joined the Isthmian League system in 1977. They were moved into the Southern League in 2004, but slipped down into the Combined Counties League where they had a period under the management of ex-Diamond John Hamsher until late 2012. They won promotion back to the Southern League for the 2013-14 season.

Last season they finished in 15th place in the Southern League Division One Central.

Their website is here and their twitter feed here and they are managed by Gary Meakin. Their nickname is “The Sarnies” which appears to have originated from a simple play-on-words “Egham Sarnies”.
