FA Carlsberg Vase

Third Round Proper

Saturday 7th December 2013

AFC Rushden & Diamonds v Graham Street Prims FC

AFC Rushden & Diamonds will host Graham Street Prims at the Dog & Duck on Saturday in the third round of the FA Carlsberg Vase. This is same stage of the competition that the Diamonds reached last season, and last season those clubs winning at this stage to reach the fourth round earned a bye to the second round proper the following season. In the earlier rounds the Diamonds have knocked out AFC Dunstable, Hoddesdon Town, Woodford United and AFC Wulfrunians.

Graham St Prims are Step 6 club, one tier below the Diamonds, from the Spondon area of Derby, playing in the East Midlands Counties Football League.

Should the tie still be level after 90 minutes then extra time will be played, but if the scores are still level after 120 minutes there will be a replay at Asterdale, Spondon on Tuesday 10th December (KO 7:45pm).

The winners of the tie will play in the fourth round proper of the competition on the weekend of 18th January 2014. You can see more information on this season’s FA Vase on the FA Website here. The winners of the tie will receive £1500 from the FA Prize fund (the prizes in the earlier rounds were £600, £800, £900 and £1200).

This is an all-pay game. Entrances prices for this game are the normal cup tie £6 Adults, £3 Concessions (Over 60s, students, U16s) and £1 U8s.

N.B. As this is a game in an FA competition, the FA rules regarding alcohol must be observed, meaning that no alcohol can be consumed outside of the clubhouse, and to ensure this there will be no alcohol sales from 2:45pm until the game is finished – please help us by observing this rule.

This will be the Diamonds last home game before Christmas, as their eight-week run of playing two games per week will come to an end if this tie does not require a replay.

Our Opponents

As detailed on their website, Graham Street Prims were originally founded in 1904, being formed from a primitive Methodist Church from which they derived the name “Prims”. Graham Street itself is actually situated off Osmaston Road in the city of Derby and is close to the Baseball Ground, the former home of Derby County F.C. The latest manifestation of the club was formed in 1995, and they have battled with various obstacles in order to join the newly formed East Midlands Counties League in season 2008/09, a league that is formed of teams from the Derby, Notts, and Leicester leagues at Step 6 of the Football League Pyramid System.

You can read more about their history on their website here.

The Prims are in an excellent vein of form. Prior to last Saturday’s defeat by Arnold Town they had lost only once since 7th September – and swiftly gained revenge for that loss to Gedling Miners’ Welfare by defeating them in a cup game a few days later. This good run has included a 10-0 win over Aylestone Park as well as Vase victories over Mickleover Royals, Harrowby United and Loughborough University. In contrast to the Diamonds nine-game November, the Prims played just five times last month, and were also without a game in midweek. This is the first time they have reached the third round of this competition. You can see a report on their victory over Loughborough University (a Step 5 club) in the previous round here.

Their club colours are red and white striped shirts and black shorts. Their club website is here and their twitter feed here. They are managed by Mark Webster.
