AFC Rushden & Diamonds v Harborough Town

AFC Rushden & Diamonds finally return to league action on Saturday when they host Harborough Town at the Dog & Duck, in the ChromaSport and Trophies UCL Premier Division. After playing a long sequence of cup games, this will be the Diamonds first game in the UCL Premier since their 1-0 defeat at Huntingdon at the end of August, so they will be looking to restart their league campaign with a positive result.

Admission prices are detailed here along with details of Season Ticket prices. There are details on how to become a member of AFC R&D here.

Joe Merrill will be available for this game having served his 3-game ban by missing the three recent cup games.

Our Opponents

Harborough Town Football Club was formed as Harborough Town Juniors FC at the start of the 1975/1976 season and has been based in its own facilities at Northampton Road since the early 1990’s. The club became an FA Charter Standard Club in 2004 and recently achieved FA Charter Standard Community Club status. After starting in the Northants Combination they joined the UCL in 2009, and won promotion to the Premier league in 2012. Ex-Cobbler Chris Carruthers played for the club, as did Martin Johnson who became more famous for his exploits with the oval ball.

Until last weekend Chris Church was the Harborough manager, but he stepped down at the start of the week and the partnership of Gordon Kyle and Rob Dunion was brought in. They have had successful spells working together at Corby Town and Rothwell Town, with the duo also having a recent spell at Desborough Town. Their first match in charge saw Town pick up their first points of the season, with a 3-1 victory at Stewarts & Lloyds Corby on Tuesday evening.

Town play in yellow shirts and black shorts, and further details about the club can be found on their website here. Their Twitter feed is here.

So far this season Harborough Town have had a difficult start in the league and are currently at the foot of the table, although they have won both their games in the FA Vase. Last season they finished 19th in the UCL Premier after having won promotion from Division One the previous season.
