Hitchin Town

Hitchin were founded in 1928 but can trace links to a Hitchin Football Club from 1868. They’ve played at Top Field in the town since inception and have played in the Spartan League, Isthmian League and now Southern League since 2000. They had great FA Cup success in the 70s and 90s reaching the second round twice and made the promotion playoffs twice in successive seasons recently losing the second in 2017 agonisingly in extra time.

Diamonds v Hitchin Town

This will be the third season Diamonds and Hitchin have competed in the same league and Diamonds are unbeaten in 3 previous encounters. Two victories in 2018/2019 included an incredible 4 3 win at Top Field. Diamonds lead 2 0, trailed 3 2 at 90 minutes but won 4 3 with two added time goals.

Only one game took place last season due to the season being voided and it resulted in a 1 1 draw at Hayden Road. The first competitive encounter also finished level at Hayden Road 0 0 in a Challenge Cup tie but Hitchin win the penalty shoot out.
