AFC Rushden & Diamonds v Long Buckby
AFC Rushden & Diamonds will play one of the more crucial games in their history on Monday afternoon when Long Buckby visit the Dog & Duck in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division. Following Saturday’s results for their title rivals the Diamonds now know that three wins from their remaining five games will seal the UCL Premier Title – and a single point from those five games will secure their position in the top 3 – and their promotion place to Step 4 football.
Admission prices are detailed here. See here for some key dates and data relating to the remainder of the season.
Please monitor AFC Rushden & Diamonds Twitter feed (@AFCRD) if the weather conditions suggests the fixture may be in any doubt.
Our Opponents
Long Buckby AFC was formed in 1945. The Bucks won the UCL Premier Division in the 2011-12 season with a record 108-point haul, after a record breaking run of 16 straight league wins at the start of the season – with Russ Dunkley and Fazel Koriya being key players, scoring goals 37 and 22 goals respectively, helping them to a total of 130 goals that season. Richard Bunting also a key player for the Bucks, with Jack Ashton spending a period at Station Road during that season.
They went on to also break the points total for the league, but Kings Lynn, who they beat twice on their way to the title, were the team accepted into the step 4 leagues due to ground grading issues at Station Road.
The Bucks have had a challenging season, and are facing relegation from the UCL Premier. When the two teams met at Station Road earlier this season the Diamonds recorded a 5-1 victory – report here.
Their club colours are all-claret and they are managed by Richard Kay, who took the helm in February after stepping up from the Assistant Manager role. Their website is here, but they do not appear to have an active twitter feed.
