AFC Rushden & Diamonds v Royston Town – Saturday 5th December

Dog and Duck Stadium, London Road, Wellingborough NN8 2DP

Kick-Off 3pm

Saturday 5th December 2015

Southern Football League Division One Central

AFC Rushden & Diamonds v Royston Town

AFC Rushden & Diamonds will host Royston Town at the Dog & Duck on Saturday afternoon. With the recent game against St Ives having been postponed this will be another chance for the Diamonds to tackle one of the favourites for the league title before starting a run of three consecutive away games.

The club was able to report on Friday evening that prospects for the game were good, and provided there is no heavy overnight rain the game should be ON. Please check the twitter link https://twitter.com/AFCRD or by following @AFCRD for further news during Saturday.

Diamonds fans will be aware of the fire in the Dog & Duck clubhouse, which has meant that alternative arrangements have been made for certain facilities to ensure the match can go ahead as planned – see here for the latest detail.

Our Opponents

Royston Town FC was founded in 1875 and played in various local leagues until 1978 when they joined the South Midlands League, winning promotion to the Isthmian League shortly afterwards. After a period back in the SML they won promotion to the Southern League Division One Central in 2012 after winning the SML title. Last season they were runners up in the Southern Football League Division One Central, losing on penalties to Barton Rovers in the play-off semi-final.

They are known as the Crows and are managed by Steve Castle. Their website is here, and their Twitter feed here. Their club colours are white shirts and black shorts. The club nickname originates from the fact that the hooded crow was locally common and became known as the “Royston Crow” – and is now featured on the town crest.

The Dog and Duck

There is covered seating available, as well as two covered standing areas. You can see a stadium plan that maps out these facilities here, along with details of catering facilities (including a snack bar menu / prices with details of the famous Diamond Burger).

There is always a need for additional volunteers to help with ongoing maintenance and matchday work, as detailed here.
