Our Opponents

Wellingborough Town FC were originally formed in 1867, and had a proud history being the sixth oldest in the country, although the current club was launched in 2004, two years after the original club had disbanded. The Doughboys had an impressive end to last season in the league, and after a mixed start to this campaign they hit form and climbed to a strong position in the league. They reached the semi-final of the UCL KO Cup before losing to Deeping Rangers.

Phil Neal, of Liverpool and England fame, started his career with the club, and AFC Rushden & Diamonds Assistant Manager Andy Peaks played at the Dog & Duck during the 2006/07 season. Jack Wisniewski has left the club since the two teams met in December, although Nat Liburd and Jason Taylor will be familiar to Diamonds fans. Doughboys striker Jason Turner is in contention to be the top scorer in the UCL Premier this season.

When the two clubs met on Boxing Day they were managed by Craig Adams, but he has since left to take over control at Bedford Town. They recently appointed Ben Watts as their new manager – who Diamonds fans may remember was in charge when they hosted Rothwell Corinthians last season. Their club colours are blue and yellow, and their club website is here and their Twitter feed here.
