United Counties League Knockout Cup Preliminary Round
Dog and Duck Stadium, London Road, Wellingborough NN8 2DP
AFC Rushden & Diamonds will play their first game in the UCL KO Cup on Tuesday evening when Wellingborough Whitworth make the very short trip “next door” to the Dog and Duck. With neither side facing a replay in the FA Vase this game can now be confirmed, with Mark Starmer likely to take the opportunity to give match time to those who did not start in the Vase game on Saturday. This will also be the Diamonds first midweek game at Senior Level.
This is an all-pay game. Pricing for this game has been confirmed as £5 Adults, £2.50 Concessions (Over 60s, students, U16s) and £1 U8s. The tie will be decided on the evening, with extra-time and penalties if required.
The game also sees the launch of the “Think Before You Chant” campaign by AFC Rushden & Diamonds – details here.
For this game there are some specific updates provided on the club website, regarding car parking.
If the Diamonds progress to the next round of the UCL KO Cup they will be “away” to Wellingborough Town in the first round proper of this competition – which has 16 ties and then proceeds on a straight knock-out basis.
Our Opponents
Wellingborough Whitworth FC, or Whitworths as they are often known were formed in 1973 with a basis of players from a Sunday League team known as the Victoria Millers.
The Flourmen have played at Victoria Mill in London Road since their formation. They joined the UCL in 1985, and have remained in Division One since then.
Their joint managers are Matty Freeman and Steve Sargent, and Diamonds players Deven Ellwood and Jake Newman were at Victoria Mill last season.
The Dog and Duck
