Kick-Off 7:52pm

ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division

Friday 11th April 2014

AFC Rushden & Diamonds v Yaxley FC

AFC Rushden & Diamonds welcome Yaxley FC to the Dog & Duck on Friday evening in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division. The match will kick-off at 7:52pm, seven minutes later than originally scheduled as a mark of respect to the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough Disaster – as referenced here.

With both teams otherwise due to have a blank weekend, and with the Dog & Duck already in use for a Wellingborough Town game on the Saturday afternoon, the two clubs recently agreed to play this game as a Friday evening fixture.

The two sides met in Cambridgeshire back in November, with the Diamonds recording a 2-1 victory in a very tight game – report here.

Admission prices are detailed here. There are details on how to become a member of AFC R&D here. Match Status information is here.

Our Opponents

Yaxley Football Club was formed in 1900 as Yaxley Rovers, and after playing mostly in the Peterborough district leagues they stepped up to the Eastern League in 1988, and after a move to the West Anglian League they won promotion to the United Counties League in 1995, quickly winning promotion to the Premier Division where they have since remained.

The Cuckoos play in blue shirts and shorts, and are managed by Brett Whaley. Further details about the club can be found on their website here. Their Twitter feed is here. Ex-R&DFC striker Andy Furnell plays for the Cuckoos.

Yaxley have recovered from the early disappointments of being knocked out of both the FA Cup and FA Trophy by local rivals Peterborough Northern Star to climb into the top 6 in the UCL Premier. Last season they finished 12th in the UCL Premier.
