The AFC Rushden & Diamonds Community youth teams held the first club wide FIFA tournament at the Windmill club in Rushden on Saturday 29th November.
Around 100 community team players arrived at the Windmill on Saturday evening looking to become AFC Rushden & Diamonds inaugural tournament champion.
The players were split into 3 groups, 9 and under, 10 to 13 and 15 and over.
3 hours, 70 odd matches and 150+ goals later we have our winners;
U7 – U9 winner: Jay Oddie
U7 – U9 runner up: Ryan Oddie
U10 – U13 winner: Patrick McGrady
U10 – U13 runner up: Charlie Broughton
U15 – U18 winner: Scott Clampin
U15 – U18 runner up: Elliott Spowart
Great goals, heroic defending and great attacking play were the order of the evening for some very close competitive matches, all loudly cheered on by their peers throughout.
The first event of its kind for the community team realised around £200.
Half of the monies raised will be invested back into the youth setup, the other half has been used to participate in the Weetabix Youth leagues “Give a gift for Christmas” campaign.
Donations of Christmas Presents, Gift Vouchers or money have been collected from clubs who are part of the Weetabix league, so that Gifts can be given to local orphanages, hospices, underprivileged children and unwell children in the Corby, Kettering, Rushden, Wellingborough area.
A huge thanks must go to all those who took part, and also to those who organised and ran the event on the evening.
See you next year for an even bigger, better tournament!
