AFC Wulfrunians v AFC Rushden & Diamonds
AFC Rushden & Diamonds will face AFC Wulfrunians in the second round proper of the FA Carlsberg Vase on Saturday. This will be the Diamonds fourth tie in this competition this season, having started a round earlier than last season – when they reached the third round proper.
AFC Wulfrunians are based in Castlecroft on the western edge of the Wolverhampton area. They play in the Midlands Alliance, which is a step 5 league at the same level as the UCL Premier, having won promotion from the West Midlands League last season.
Should the tie still be level after 90 minutes then extra time will be played, but if the scores are still level after 120 minutes there will be a replay at the Dog & Duck on Tuesday 19th (KO 7:45pm).
The winners of the tie will play in the third round proper of the competition on the weekend of 7th December. You can see more information on this season’s FA Vase on the FA Website here.
Admission prices have been confirmed as £6 adults and £3 concessions. The club has a 70 space car park with spaces allocated on a first-come first-served basis – otherwise there is local street parking. Access to the ground and facilities will be from 1pm for spectators.
Match Status information is here.
Our Opponents
AFC Wulfrunians were formed in 2005, joining the West Midlands League Division Two. They won promotion to the Premier Division in 2007 – a Step 6 league. They won that league in 2008-09, but did not gain promotion to the Midland Football Alliance (Step 5) until the end of last season when they won the title with 106 points and a goal difference of +98. They are currently in a mid-table position in the Midland Football Alliance.
They are nicknamed the Wulfs, and they play in red and white halved shirts and black shorts. Their website is here, and their twitter feed here. They are managed by Jon Purdie and Steve Palmer, with the latter being with Telford United during his playing career, where he scored against R&DFC back in 2000 when the two teams met in Worcester – report here.
