August 2013 Player of the Month – Russ Dunkley

Following a poll on AFCDiamonds.com, the winner of the August 2013 Player of the Month award is Russ Dunkley. Russ picks up the first monthly award of the 2013-14 season following his contribution to the Diamonds promising start to the UCL Premier Division campaign, as well as their first two ties in the FA Cup.

After providing two assists in the Diamonds first game at Deeping Rangers, he netted his first Diamonds goal against Northampton Sileby Rangers three days later, and then also scored in the wins over London Colney and Sleaford Town.

The battle for the award was one of the closest there has been, and although Russ emerged as a clear winner in the end, there were only two votes separating second to fourth places, with Jack Wisniewski and Matt Gearing sharing second place just ahead of Alfie Taylor.

The award is sponsored by P.W. House Jewellers of Rushden, who are continuing a long tradition of sponsoring this award, going back many years with R&DFC. Their business has been part of life in Rushden High Street for the last 60 years.

The award was presented by Diamonds’ Manager Mark Starmer before the game against Hoddesdon Town in the FA Vase.

The poll for the September 2013 Player of the Month will be accessible on AFCDiamonds.com shortly after the final game of the month.
