Bourne Town v AFC Rushden & Diamonds – Saturday 23rd February

Bourne Town v AFC Rushden & Diamonds

Saturday 23rd February 2013 – 3:00pm

ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Division One

Abbey Lawn, Abbey Road, Bourne, Lincolnshire PE10 9EN

AFC Rushden & Diamonds make one of their longer trips of the season on Saturday when they travel to Lincolnshire to face Bourne Town in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Division One.

This will be the first meeting between the two sides. Our hosts have made some special arrangements to welcome the Diamonds, with a dedicated car parking area with stewards in place to direct fans to that location (see below), as well as opening their clubhouse from 1pm (note that drinks will be served in plastic glasses). The club have also arranged for more help to ensure the smooth running of the afternoon, but ask for Diamonds fans patience as they handle the extra support.

Details of any issues with respect to the weather / pitch conditions etc will be here or on Twitter (@AFCRD).

Our Opponents

Bourne Town were formed in 1883 and started out in the Peterborough & District League before joining the UCL for the first time in 1947, dropping out again in 1956. After a period in the Midland League they rejoined the UCL in the mid-sixties, winning the title three times shortly afterwards. In 2010 the Wakes were demoted to Division One of the UCL due to ground grading issues.

The Wakes are managed by Darren Munton. They play in Claret and Sky Blue and their current website is here.

They are currently in 8th spot in the league, having picked up draws against Diamonds closest rivals Eynesbury Rovers, Oadby Town and Bugbrooke this season, so this will be perhaps the stiffest test since the Diamonds trip to Oadby, their only defeat in 2013.

Getting There

For directions for the 43 mile trip from the Dog and Duck to Abbey Lawn, Abbey Road, Bourne, Lincolnshire PE10 9EN see here. From Bourne town centre turn east on the A151 towards Spalding into Abbey Road, where the ground is half a mile on the right. A Car Parking area for all cars has been reserved at the former AHF site in Manning Road, Bourne PE10 9HW – please follow directions given by stewards outside the ground. It will then be about a 175 yard walk back to the ground.

Getting there on public transport is rather difficult, needing a bus / rail journey to Peterborough and then a local bus to Bourne. See the Traveline website for door-to-door directions.

The club are running a supporters coach for this fixture. The coach will leave the Pemberton Centre, H.E. Bates Way, Rushden, Northamptonshire NN10 9YP at 12:00 Midday on Saturday 23rd February. There will be parking in the Pemberton Centre car park for those in cars (please park at the top end in front of the trees) and the coach will return there in the evening – just in time for the AFC Rushden & Diamonds Comedy Evening. Tickets are £8 per seat return – details here

The club would like to thank Buckitt Tours for their help in arranging the transport for this fixture.
