Club Chairman’s Statement #2 – 28 March 2020

On behalf of everyone at AFC R&D I would like to thank everyone who has shown their support for the Club during the last week. We do still desperately need your help, however. One way in which you can help us is to sign up or renew as a part-owner – 2020-21 Memberships are available now – click here for more details.

Over the past week, we have been promoting a number of initiatives which have begun to generate needed income for the Club, including:

  • Donations, which can be made here.
  • Purchases in the massive 33% off everything Club Shop Sale. Click here to shop now – with free home delivery for orders over £35.
  • Sales of 2020-2021 season tickets, with prices frozen at 2017/18 levels available here. Initial sales are very positive, with 23 already purchased.
  • Almost 50 new entries Team Building Lottery, bringing the total memberships to 144. Our target is now to reach 200 entries by the end of April – sign up here.
  • Ticket sales for the end-of-season Grand Prize Draw – get yours here.

Fuelsell have also confirmed their sponsorship of AFC R&D for the next two years (story here) and many of the AFC R&D Academy players’ parents have donated their remaining 2019-20 monthly fees to the Club.

The extra financial help provided by donations and purchases has begun to alleviate a difficult financial situation. Whilst we are making excellent progress, AFC Rushden & Diamonds does need more help in the near future. This is because, with the current season now having been confirmed as void, the Club is missing the revenue from 1/3rd of our home games, much of which was already budgeted against ongoing costs. These costs include the wages of contracted players, coaches and other key staff members, many of whom rely on the Club to provide part of their household income. We really need to make sure that we can continue to pay all of these people during this difficult time.

One positive is that the confirmation of the season’s annulment provides clarity and allows all of us to focus on preparing for an extended period without football, however, as a result we have sadly been forced to cancel the end-of-season Presentation Evening.

In order to continue to bring in revenue, 2020-2021 Memberships are now available. Along with buying a season ticket, renewing your membership, or joining up to become an AFC R&D part-owner is the quickest and easiest way which you can help the Club. In light of the current unprecedented situation, the Board have decided to open up next season’s membership without holding the annual membership pricing vote. I hope that Members can understand the need to do this, but if you do have any concerns please feel free to drop me an email. Adult membership prices have been frozen at £25, whilst junior membership has been reduced to just £5.

During this very exceptional and difficult time, everyone at AFC R&D is working hard to resolve the current issues that we are facing. Along with fundraising activities, we are also talking to various parties who can help, as well as promoting awareness of the Club’s current position.

We are in contact with the Southern League, who understand our situation and are making representations on behalf of member clubs to the FA. Currently no financial help has been offered to AFC R&D from any relevant football body, although the Southern League inform us that they are continuing to look at possible options for providing financial assistance.

Over the coming weeks, myself and the rest of the Board will do our best to keep you informed via these updates. Thank you once again to everyone who has helped the Club so far. If we continue to receive the same level of support as we have had during the past week, I know that we will be able to pull through this situation and continue to grow our fantastic community club.

Finally, I hope that everyone is well and following the guidelines issued by Public Health England. Current advice is available here –
