Following a pitch inspection at the Dog & Duck this evening, despite a marked improvement from the waterlogged scenes of Saturday, it has been decided that tomorrow nights fixture against Crawley Green cannot go ahead at the Dog & Duck. The game will instead be played at Crawley Green on the club’s 3G pitch.
Fans are more than welcome to attend and details of directions can be found here
Kick Off is 7.45pm and the entrance fee will be £2.
Chairman Ralph Burditt sounded understandably disappointed as he spoke to www.afcdiamonds.com “The weather over the past few days has certainly put a “dampener” on our pre-season plans. We had planned a couple of great games but unfortunately nature has conspired against us, and it is with great regret that we have had to call off the two games which were scheduled to be played at the Dog & Duck. Whilst this is far from ideal, it is important that we protect the pitch from damage ahead of a long season. We are very fortunate that Crawley Green have a 3G pitch beside their ground and that they are able to accommodate us tomorrow night. I would like to take this opportunity to place on record our thanks to them and I am very much looking forward to our visit.
I realise that this news will come as a big disappointment to lots of people and that there are many who will now not be able to come along and watch the game, however, playing at Crawley Green was the only way that we are able to stage a game that is open to the public and at which there will be the appropriate facilities for supporters. For those who are able to come along tomorrow – I will see you there and whilst it may not be the grand occasion that we had all hoped for, I still can’t wait to see AFC Rushden & Diamonds run out as a senior team for the first time!
