Desborough Town v AFC Rushden & Diamonds

AFC Rushden & Diamonds return to league action on Tuesday evening when they travel to face Desborough Town in the ChromaSport and Trophies UCL Premier Division. This will be only their third away league game of the season, but their second in midweek.

More details on admission prices, parking capacities and catering facilities will be added here once available.

Our Opponents

Desborough Town have the rather unusual nickname of “Ar Tarn”, which is believed to have been adopted from the local pronunciation of “Our Town”. The club was founded in 1896 and joined the Northants League, which was later to be renamed as the United Counties League – and they have remained in the same competition for over a century. They have won the league title nine times, a record beaten only by Rushden Town.

A fire at Braybrooke Rd in December 2008 destroyed their clubhouse, with a replacement opening in February 2011.

They are managed by Steve Walker and they play in all blue. Their website is here, but their twitter feed appears to no longer work. After a promising start to the season followed by a period where they lost their assistant manager and coach to Harborough Town, they have had a mixed period recently, losing 8-1 at home to Deeping Rangers, but picking up notably away vixtories at Peterborough Northern Star and the improving Sileby Rangers. This has left them one point ahead of the Diamonds in a mid-table position. They had an impressive 3-1 away victory at Hucknall Town in the FA Vase at the weekend.

Ex Diamond Daniel Grainger joined Ar Tarn in September, and they also have a number of players from Sileby Rangers title-winning side of last season, including Michael Byrne and David Glass. Diamonds player Brad Harris joined the club after a spell at Braybrooke Road.
