A group of AFC Rushden & Diamonds fans accompanied Dale Roberts’ parents Isabel and George to Peterborough Greyhound Stadium last Saturday evening for a “Night at the Dogs”.
The highlight of the evening was race 8 on the racecard – the Dale Roberts Memorial Stakes, with Isabel and George making the presentation to the owner of the winning dog – which was appropriately dog number 1, called PEARLDROPDIAMOND. Club Secretary Dave Albon helped with the presentation as the Diamonds fans looked on – with an extra cheer coming from those who had a pound or two on the nose of the winning dog, inspired by its name or number.
The night at Fengate also saw a second sponsored race with relevance to the club, as dedicated volunteer Glenis Haynes celebrated with husband Richard as they presented the awards in the Haynes Anniversary Stakes, accompanied by three Diamonds fans who had a hand in sponsoring the race – Mal Swinden, Rachel Roberts and Darren Bolland.
The club would also like to thank Tony and Joan Bathurst for organising the evening, which also raised money for club funds.
