AFC Rushden & Diamonds have completed the signing of Jake Newman who has joined the club from Northampton Sileby Rangers. The signing was completed in time for Jake to be eligible to play in the Diamonds’ game at Olney on Saturday.
Jake is a 20-year old striker with UCL experience playing for Wellingborough Whitworth and Sileby Rangers. Last season playing for Whitworths he scored 27 goals for the Flourmen, including picking up the March player of the month award when he netted 10 goals in four games during that month. In the previous season he went on a run of scoring in seven consecutive games for the Flourmen.
Jake also spoke to afcdiamonds.com during the signing process (which can take some time as various forms have to be physically signed before the move is fully official). He stated “I am delighted to say I have joined for AFC because it means I am playing for the biggest name and biggest fan base in the UCL, the only way for the club is onwards and upwards. Having seen the plan, and how well the team has started, I know that Starm’s & Peaksy are honest and they clearly know what they are doing. My aim is to fire Diamonds into the UCL Premier & higher, with the same if not better scoring record I had at Whitworths last year. I cannot wait to play in front of the biggest crowd I have ever played in front of week in week out!”
Manager Mark Starmer commented that Jake will add to the strength of the side and complete the signings at this stage of the season.
Note also that Jake is not cup-tied, as Sileby did not play in the FA Vase last weekend, so he will be eligible for the Diamonds’ FA Carlsberg Vase campaign which starts on 15th September at home to Fakenham Town.
Jake has been added to the Diamonds Management and Player profiles here.
