AFC Rushden & Diamonds can confirm that midfielder Elliot Dent is to leave the club. Having been one of the eleven players who took to the field and started AFC Rushden & Diamonds first game against Thrapston Town in August 2012, he will always have a special place in the Diamonds story. He went on to have an injury hit season last term, and after finding his opportunities for first-team football limited this season he has decided to move on. He appeared in 24 games for the club, including 15 league games.
Commenting on his decision, Elliot said:
“I’m sad to leave the club, I feel right at home here but I’m just doing it for myself, as I want to be playing week in week out. I’m still young and want to get as much football and experience as I can. wish Diamonds all the best, they’re always in my heart as I’ve been involved with them since I was little, so I’ll always have a soft spot for them. I want to say thanks to the staff, coaching team, the fans who are fantastic, the lads who I will miss a lot, and all members behind the scenes who do an amazing job. Best of luck!”
Commenting on Elliot’s departure, Diamonds Manager Mark Starmer had this to say:
“I understand Elliot’s reasons for leaving the club – he was part of the plans, but could not hold down a regular spot in the side, and he just wants to play football. Having known Elliot from a young age, I have seen him develop not only into a good footballer, but also into a very genuine and likeable man. I would like to wish Elliot well in his future footballing endeavours.”
