The draw was made this morning at FA Headquarters for the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Cup with Budweiser.
AFC Rushden & Diamonds have been drawn to face Dover Athletic at their Crabble Athletic Ground (CT17 0JB), with the tie due to be played on the weekend of Saturday 12th October 2013. Dover play in the Conference South, so will be the highest level team AFC Rushden & Diamonds have faced. The Conference South is at Step 2 of the Non-League Pyramid, whereas the UCL Premier is at Step 5.
The Whites entered the FA Cup at the Second Qualifying Round Stage, and at that stage they beat fellow newcomers to the FA Cup, Guernsey FC, 3-2 on Saturday. That result meant that the Diamonds are the sole remaining cup newcomers in the competition.
Full details of the tie will be confirmed as soon as they are agreed between the two clubs, including admission prices and any travel details for the long journey to East Kent.
The full draw can be seen on the FA website here.
The Diamonds reached this stage in their first season in the competition when they recorded a 3-2 victory over Cambridge City at the weekend – report here.
