AFC Rushden & Diamonds are pleased to announce a re-scheduled friendly against a young Irchester United XI. The game was initially due to be played on Thursday 2nd February, but was called off due to a frozen pitch at Wellingborough Town’s Dog & Duck ground.
The two sides met in a pre-season friendly at Alfred Street, with the Romans running out 2-0 winners. Click HERE for the match report. That game was the Diamonds’ last before their historic first ever competitive game against Daventry Town.
Irchester United currently play in the UCL Premier Division, and have 3 former Rushden & Diamonds youth players in their squad; Jake Gillingwater, Joe Hopewell and Danny Wallis, all of whom were with the club last season. Current AFC R&D striker Mason Thomas played a few games for the Romans’ first team earlier in the season.
