In behalf of the Board of AFC Rushden & Diamonds, I would like to apologise to anyone affected directly, or indirectly, by the sexist abuse and foul and abusive language used by a supporter of the opposition team last Saturday.
Thankfully, these incidents are rare, but, as a club, our position is very clear – AFC Rushden & Diamonds will not tolerate sexist abuse, sexism in any form, racial abuse or any form of foul or abusive language. Everyone is welcome at Hayden Road and we aim to maintain a fully inclusive and safe environment for everyone.
As always, we have conducted a thorough review into the events and have met with our stewarding supplier to ensure that their team are fully briefed on our expectations and the actions we expect to be taken if such incidents happen again. A report on the events will be sent to The FA for their consideration.
AFC Rushden & Diamonds fully support the work of the organisation Her Game Too set up to remove sexism and sexual abuse in sport.
From the link above, the Her Game Too organisation’s webpage provides further links for our supporters who may feel the need for any further support.
The organisation is keen that clubs have their own ambassador to support the eradication of sexism. If anyone wishes to come forward to take on this role with the support of the Club, please contact me at the email address below.
Likewise, if anyone wishes to discuss the weekend’s incident directly with me, please contact me at david.bland@afc-diamonds.com or speak to me on any matchday.
