Holbeach United v AFC Rushden & Diamonds

AFC Rushden & Diamonds travel to the Fens on Saturday to face fellow title-challengers Holbeach United in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division.

Details of admission prices and any parking recommendations will be added here as provided by the host club.

Our Opponents

Holbeach United FC was formed in 1929, and played in local leagues before joining the UCL after the war. They spent a short period in the Eastern Counties League in the late 1950’s, and a single season in the Midland League before rejoining the UCL in 1962. They have remained in the UCL since, and won the UCL Premier Division title in the 2012-13 season, but as they did not apply for promotion the majority of their playing staff left to join other clubs, notably Spalding United and Deeping Rangers. There was a flow of players in the opposite direction after Spalding gained promotion at the end of last season.

They are nicknamed the Tigers, and their club website is here and their Twitter feed here. They play in amber shirts and black shorts. They are joint-managed by Graham Drury and John Chand. Their most recent game was in the FA Vase, and when the two teams met at the Dog & Duck earlier in the season the game ended in a 1-1 draw in front of 729 fans – report here. The game at Carters Park last season saw the Diamonds record a 3-1 victory in their first visit to that ground – report here.

Getting There

The Tigers play at Carter’s Park, Park Road, Holbeach, Lincs PE12 7EE. For directions for the 55 mile trip from the Dog & Duck see here. The club is running a coach for this fixture – details here.

There is no obvious public transport option for the trip to Holbeach, as it would require getting a bus from Spalding, which itself requires a connection by train or bus from Peterborough.
