Hullbridge Sports are from Essex, playing in Hullbridge which is a village near Rayleigh. They play in the Essex Senior League, which is a Step 5 league at the same level as the UCL Premier, and they are currently around 6th in that league. They play at Lower Road, Hullbridge, Essex SS5 6LF

Admission prices are £6 for adults, £3 for concessions, and under 8s will be free.

As usual in this competition, if the scores are level, the tie will go to extra time. If the scores are level after 120 minutes, a replay will be played on Tuesday 25th November at the Dog & Duck, kicking off at 7:45pm.

You can see the full draw on the FA Website here, as well as other information on the competition here (look at the section on the FA Vase in the most recent weekly bulletin), with the Second Round due to be played between 128 teams. The winners of the tie will receive £1200 from the FA Prize Fund.

The Diamonds entered the competition at this stage by virtue of their run to the Fourth Round last season.

The winners of the tie will play in the Third Round Proper of the competition on the weekend of 6th December. You can see more information on this season’s FA Vase on the FA Website here.

Both Scott Joseph and Joel Gyasi are cup-tied for this fixture, and the suspensions for the players who were sent off in the game at Wisbech will also apply for this game, so Sam Brown, Richard Bunting and Russ Dunkley are also unavailable as detailed here.

Match Status information is here – noting that Hullbridge have tweeted there was a pitch inspection passed on Saturday morning.

Our Opponents

According to Wikipedia,
“The club was established in 1945, and initially played in the Mid-Essex League. They later joined the Southend District League, before becoming members of the Southend Borough Combination in 1982.

In 1984, they joined Division Two of the Essex Olympian League, and were promoted to Division One in their first season after finishing third. They narrowly avoided relegation in their first season in Division One, finishing thirteenth out of fifteen clubs, but the following season finished bottom and were relegated back to Division Two. In 1990 the club was accepted into the Essex Senior League, where they have remained since. Their best season to date was in 1997–98 when they finished sixth.”

Last season they had a fine run in the FA Vase, reaching the fourth round before losing to eventual winners Sholing. During that run they knocked out ESL Champions Great Wakering Rovers.

They are nicknamed “The Bridge” or “The Sports”, and they play in blue and white striped shirts. They do not have an active website, but their twitter feed is here. They are managed by Mark Bliss and Dan Braney.

Reaching the ground by public transport is an option, typically getting a train to Rayleigh and a bus to the ground from there. Those travelling from Bedford might consider the split ticket option via West Hampstead and London Overground via Stratford, which can provide a significant saving.

According to Wikipedia: “The village includes a post office, a library and two pubs, The Anchor and The Smugglers Den (members only). Both overlook the river and have external drinking facilities. It also has two shopping facilities, Budgens and The Co-operative Food, a Chinese and fish and chip takeaway service and an Indian restaurant.”
