Jubilee Park, Kings Ripton Road, Huntingdon PE28 2NR
Kick-Off 7:45pm
ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division
Wednesday 28th August 2013
Huntingdon Town v AFC Rushden & Diamonds
AFC Rushden & Diamonds will travel to face Huntingdon Town on Wednesday evening in the ChromaSport and Trophies UCL Premier Division. Playing an evening game away from home is still something of a novelty for the Diamonds staff and their fans, with only a single league fixture last season being played on the road in the evening.
After the Diamonds picked up wins in their first three league games, they were in second place in the league after the weekend games, but dropped to third after the Tuesday night games. Their hosts are two points behind, knowing a win will move them above the Diamonds and into second spot in the league.
Jubilee Park is some distance from the town centre in a remote location, but has a large car park on-site, with a modern clubhouse near to the pitch. Adult admission is £6. You can see an aerial view of the site here – drag the map down to see the car park and playing area.
Our Opponents
Huntingdon Town FC was formed in 1995, and after a period in Cambridgeshire Leagues they joined the UCL in 2003. They were promoted to the UCL Premier in 2012, and finished in an impressive fourth place in their first season in the Premier. They are nicknamed the Croms based on the fact that Oliver Cromwell was born in the town in 1599.
They recorded a 2-1 victory over Holbeach in their only other home league fixture this season, although they also won 4-1 against Fakenham Town in the FA Cup. At the weekend they proved their promotion credentials by going to fellow fancied team Wisbech Town and recording a 4-0 victory.
The Croms club website is here and their Twitter feed here. They play in red shirts and shorts. They are managed by Ricky Marheineke.
Getting There
To reach Jubilee Park (PE28 2NR) it is worth noting that the ground is outside the town on the road leading to Kings Ripton. For a map and driving directions for the 29 miles trip from the Dog & Duck see here.
Specific directions supplied by the club are as follows: At the A1 / A14 Brampton Hut roundabout, follow signs for A14 East until reaching the Spittals Interchange roundabout, Follow the A141 towards St Ives/March and go over 3 roundabouts. Take next left turn at traffic lights towards Kings Ripton and the ground is on the left.
As this is an evening game Public Transport is not really an option – although it would be difficult to reach the ground for a daytime game.
