Local football fans undertake ‘Groundhop Week’ for charity

Between the dates of 8-15th October this year, 4 Northampton Town supporters, Aaron, Andy, Ben and Chris, will be taking part in a charity challenge that they have dubbed ‘Groundhop Week’. They intend to visit 165 football grounds (including the all of the 92 league grounds) across England and Wales in just 165 hours in order to raise money for Cancer Research UK and Parkinson’s UK.

Whilst there have been other stories of fans doing things such as visiting 92 grounds within 92 hours and other similar ventures, there have not been any previous attempts currently known of to visit as many great footballing locations in such a short period of time as the guys aim to during Groundhop Week.

Raunds Town’s Kiln Park where Diamonds currently play our home games will be one of those that they will be visiting during the week and they anticipate arriving at Kiln Park during standard office/club opening hours one day between Monday and Friday.

As an extra part of their fundraising they are also holding an Auction and Raffle evening on 18th November to be held at Sixfields Stadium, Northampton. A number of clubs have already been forthcoming in promising things such as free ticket vouchers and signed shirts for the guys to auction. A number of clubs are also posting messages of support upon their websites to try and increase the guys’ exposure to supporters across the land in the days and weeks leading up to their departure.

You can view Aaron, Andy, Ben and Chris’ website at www.groundhopweek.com and their exploits’ can be followed on social networking sites such as Twitter (@groundhopweek) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/groundhopweek).

Everyone at AFC Rushden & Diamonds wishes Aaron, Andy, Ben and Chris all of the best in their fundraising challenge and will follow their progress closely as they undertake their challenge.
