With the new season fast approaching www.afcdiamonds.com managed to catch up with manager Mark Starmer for a few minutes to get his thoughts on pre season and the forthcoming UCL Premier campaign.
We asked him about pre season and the current squad
“Pre Season has been progressive both on and off the field, we have played some spells of decent football which has got better and better. The last two weeks has seen the side build together and get stronger”
“The squad is taking shape now with cover in most positions. Injuries, holidays and suspensions have been covered so we will see how the players react over the coming months”
Looking specifically at the forthcoming season and Deeping Rangers in particular, Mark said:
“My expectations are to be competitive and to do ourselves justice. I never get too ambitious as this tends to go against you”
“Deeping will be a really tough test. They finished well last season and tend to always be a strong outfit. Saturday will give us a good indication of where we are that’s for sure, although nothing is ever won or lost in August”
“We have a few injuries at the moment and with Liburd suspended and King on holiday, I’ll make my starting XI decision after training on Thursday”
“Everyone is looking forward to it, opening games are a bit special and I am sure the fans will be there in numbers just like they were last season”
