AFC Rushden & Diamonds are delighted to announce Mark Starmer as the first team manager for the 2012/2013 season.
Mark, who holds a UEFA A Coaching Licence, was appointed as AFC R&D Under 18s manager on 18th July 2011, just 18 days after the new club was formed. After assembling his squad from scratch over a 4 week period in July/August 2011, the current season has seen an excellent performance in the league for Mark’s young Diamonds with the team securing a place in the Final of the Northants Senior Youth League Cup. These results along with the expansive, passing style in which the team has played football has impressed everyone connected with the club. The visible development of players over the course of the season has also been particularly pleasing for all and is something which is of particular importance to both AFC R&D and to Mark.
When asked for his reaction to the news in an interview for AFC R&D TV, Starmer said “I am really looking forward to it and I am really pleased that the club has given me the opportunity to take the reigns next year” he added “Everything here is so friendly and everyone wants to succeed but at the right pace and that’s key for me, it’s all done sensibly with a lot of thought going into everything that’s done, off the field things are done right and I hope next year we’ll be able to do the same on the pitch.”
AFC Rushden and Diamonds Chairman Ralph Burditt added, “I am delighted that we have been able to make this appointment. Mark is someone with whom I have been working closely over the last nine months and during that time I have been incredibly impressed with his abilities and ideas as a coach and his commitment to the development of young players. At AFC R&D we are fully committed to nurturing young talent and to bringing local players through the ranks and into the first team. This is why myself and the rest of the board felt that Mark was an ideal candidate for the position of Senior Manager and moved quickly after our recent election to secure his services for next season. We will now begin the process of putting into place the people and resources which Mark needs around him in order to turn our shared vision for the club into a reality.”
