Following ratification of the election process at the Society AGM held at the Windmill Club on Thursday, 31st August, here are the candidate statements from our two newly elected Club Board members.
Richard Parkes
Originally from Milton Keynes, I became a supporter during the Roger Ashby period. My father was the secretary of Wolverton Town, the club Roger was at before Rushden Town. They would take me over to Hayden Road from time to time, but it was the move to Nene Park that got me hooked and as Wolverton finished, I found myself spending more and more time over this area. I was devastated at the demise of the old club and to this day I have various bits of the old stadium in my back garden.
The formation of AFC Rushden & Diamonds gave me back the happiness I lost and has also helped form new friendships around the Club. I never thought about doing anything other than being a supporter until recently when I was approached and asked if if I would like to learn the secretarial role.
Alongside Nikki Roberts we have been superbly assisted by Stacey as she hands the reins over and I’m able to put some of my skills as a director of operations for a baby gifting company called ‘My 1st Years’ into this role and I’m enjoying it. My strengths are in communication and engagement, and this is something i would like to share with the wider fanbase. The Club means everything to me and to have the opportunity to be part of the next exciting chapter of its history is something that I couldn’t turn down.
Roy Brawn
My name is Roy Brawn and I’ve been a supporter of AFC Rushden & Diamonds for several years. In my youth, for my sins, I was a supporter of Bedford Town, when I lived and worked in Bedford as a postman at Royal Mail. I served on a committee for some time before becoming Branch Secretary, a post I held until retirement.
Now retired, I live in Irthlingborough and am eager to give my support to AFC Rushden & Diamonds – my local team – in any way I can.
I’m an ‘ideas’ person who can hopefully put forward suggestions that the Club could develop to take forward and I am keen to work alongside other like-minded people in the coming year for the benefit of AFC Rushden & Diamonds.
