AFC Rushden & Diamonds are pleased to announce that they have signed 23-year-old striker Nabil Shariff, who joins the club from Daventry Town, subject to certain registration formalities.
Diamonds fans will remember Nabil from his impressive appearances for R&DFC in the 2010-11 season, when he made his league debut, initially with a number of substitute appearances, and after he had opened his goalscoring account he was given a first league start in April 2011, scoring three goals in his first two full games in the North East. He started the final game played by R&DFC.
Originating from Milton Keynes, he joined the Diamonds Centre of Excellence at the start of his Under 14 year, working through the ranks to Conference level. Since leaving R&DFC he has played for a number of clubs, including spells with Tamworth, Banbury United, Corby Town and Stamford.
Commenting on the signing, Diamonds manager Andy Peaks advised “I’m delighted Nabil has joined, we had a look at each other in pre-season but I had my striking options sorted and Nabil joined Daventry where he has played really well and scored frequently at the same level. Obviously the fans will remember him when he was on fire in the conference and I have no doubt he has a massive part to play in the clubs future”.
Nabil has missed the last couple of games at Daventry due to a chest infection, and has since reported on 24th January that he expected to be ready to play three weeks after that date.
