AFC Rushden & Diamonds are delighted to announce the signing of Declan Rogers.
The 24 year old Midfielder joins from UCL rivals Huntingdon Town, where he was club captain. Rogers can play on the left wing or across the midfield, and has scored 14 goals from 20 appearances this season, following last season’s haul of 29 goals from 38 games.
Rogers started his career with Peterborough United before joining Cambridge City in 2010. He then had a spell with Soham Town Rangers before joining Huntingdon Town where he has played for the last three seasons, apart from a brief spell at St Neots Town in the Southern League Premier in 2012.
Manager Andy Peaks spoke to afcdiamonds.com, Peaks said : “I’ve known Declan for a long time and we tried to get him in the summer but it didn’t work out. He’s the type of player we wanted, strong, someone who can pick a pass and can play anywhere across the middle and he clearly has an eye for a goal. I’m really pleased he is joining as I know he had some offers from clubs in higher leagues, but I think Declan can see what we are trying to build here and he wants to be part of that.
“It’s an important time in the season and hopefully we can build on the New Years Day result and put a fantastic run together and Declan will be crucial to that”
Declan also spoke to afcdiamonds.com Rogers said : “I am thrilled to be joining the club, it was a really tough decision as I have been at Huntingdon for a long while and they have great people there but I wanted to be part of what is going on at Diamonds and the time was right, I can’t wait to get started.”
Rogers goes into the squad for Saturday’s fixture away at Oadby Town.
