AFC Rushden & Diamonds U18s / MAA will play Peterborough United Academy this Wednesday evening at the Dog and Duck, in the NFA David Joyce U18 Cup Final (KO 7:30pm). The NFA admission prices are £4 adults, £2 concessions.
The scholars ended the season on a high last week by coming from 2-0 down to win 3-2. Captain Ryan Kirk got a brace with Luke Garner getting the other.
Having already been crowned Champions, the young Diamonds will be hoping to complete the league and cup double when they face The Posh. Peterborough overcame Northampton Town in the semi-final as Darren Purse’s boys beat Wellingborough Whitworths on penalties.
Purse knows, Peterborough, who finished joint third in their respective league, will be a tough opposition.
“We’ve done brilliantly to get here. I’m not going to rest on my laurels now, I want to go and win it, if we can. It would be a great first season for the boys if we can win the league, and win the cup. Even if they don’t win it, getting to the final of the county cup is a great achievement for our first season together. But now we’re in the final, I want to go and win it.
I’ve got a full squad for the game, so I’m going to have to leave some players out the squad. I’ve got some tough decisions to make. But I’m looking forward to naming a side, and seeing how they get on on the night.”
Like the previous round, should the scores be level at full-time, a penalty shoot-out will decide the winner.
