Northampton Sileby Rangers v AFC Rushden & Diamonds

AFC Rushden & Diamonds make the short trip to Northampton on Tuesday to face Northampton Sileby Rangers in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division. After their comprehensive victory over Wellingborough Town on Saturday the Diamonds now know that a point from this game will be enough to clinch the UCL Premier title with two games to spare. Since their defeat at Oadby back in January the Diamonds have gone on a 16 game unbeaten run to parallel their similar feat back in the 2012-13 season.

Details of admission prices will be added here as provided by the host club. There is a car park at the ground, using the Talavera Way entrance, and Sileby have arranged for car park stewards to help with the parking arrangements to make the best possible use of the space available. They have also arranged additional catering / bar facilities for this game.

Our Opponents

Northampton Sileby Rangers FC was formed in 1968 as the works team of the Sileby Engineering Company, and after a period as a Sunday team joined the Northampton Town league before winning promotion to the UCL Division One in 1993. For a while they were known as Vanaid. Although they have won the UCL1 title several times, last season was their debut in the UCL Premier Division.

Although they have been fighting to avoid ending in one of the potential relegation places in the UCL Premier, they have produced a number of good results in recent weeks, including a victory over Holbeach United on Easter Saturday and a win at Cogenhoe during March. Since the return of striker Michael Byrne to the club they have been in free-scoring form, netting at least three times in five of their games in the past month.

A number of ex-Diamonds have been seen at Fernie Fields this season, with Quincy Shorunmu and Lance Allen playing for Rangers in recent weeks. They are managed by Daren Young.

Earlier this season the Diamonds recorded an 8-1 victory at the Dog & Duck – report here, and last season’s game at Fernie Fields saw the Diamonds win 7-1, as reported here, as Rangers went through a period of transition after their promotion from UCL Division One.

The Rangers club website is here. They play in red and black.

Getting There

For directions for the 9 mile trip from the Dog and Duck to Fernie Fields Sportsground, Talavera Way, Moulton Park, Northampton NN3 7BD see here. You can also use the following directions from the A45 – take the A43 exit to the ring road/Kettering/Corby (Lumbertubs Way). Go straight over first roundabout to a large roundabout with traffic lights and take A5076 Talavera Way exit signposted to Market Harborough, Moulton Park and Kingsthorpe. The Entrance to the ground is a quarter of a mile on the left – here. There is a car park at the ground as shown on that link.

Note that the Google Maps picture was taken before recent ground improvements which have included covered standing and seated areas as well as extensive landscaping. Note also that the Sileby club website quotes a different postcode which no longer seems local to the ground on most maps.

Any fans who plan to park away from the ground should bear in mind that Talavera Way is a Ring Road, not designed for pedestrians, and as a pedestrian they should consider accessing the ground via Moulton Way and Fernie Field Road (but remember that this route into the ground is only for pedestrians).
