AFC Rushden & Diamonds will play AFC Kempston Rovers in the Northants Senior Youth League Cup Final at Steel Park, Corby on Wednesday 18th April, 7:45pm KO. Rushden will wear their white and blue home strip, while the ‘Walnut Boys’ will wear their home strip of red, white and black.
The Diamonds’ route to the final saw them defeat Daventry 1-0 in the 2nd Round (having received a bye at the 1st Round) with a late winner from Blake Helsdown. The quarter-final saw a stunning 4-0 victory over ON Chenecks in what was perhaps the team’s best performance of the season, despite a horrendous snow storm that threatened to ruin the game. The semi-final was a very hard fought 1-0 victory away to Rothwell Corinthians, with Louis Smith netting the winning goal deep into the second period of extra time.
AFC Kempston Rovers booked their place in the final with a 2-1 victory over Wellingborough Whitworths in their semi-final, with that game also going to extra time.
The two AFC’s have met twice already this season in the NSYL with both games being very tight encounters that ended in draws; 1-1 at Kempston back in September (match report HERE) and 0-0 at Kiln Park in November (match report HERE).
