01/09/23: AFC Rushden & Diamonds are delighted to announce the signing of 27-year-old left back Will Summerfield from Southern League Division One Central side Bedford Town on a dual-registration basis. Will is a natural left footed, left sided defender with bags of experience in non-league at various levels. Beginning his career at MK Dons, upon release he joined Hemel Hempstead Town and has since represented Kempston Rovers, Bovingdon, Arlesey Town, Berkhamsted, Leighton Town and has had a number of spells at Bedford Town. Will has picked up league winners medals with Bovingdon (Step 7) and Bedford Town (Step 4) in recent years. Will is no stranger to Hayden Road having featured against us in July during our pre-season friendly against Bedford Town. Manager Chris Nunn was delighted to get Will on board: “I’ve tried to sign Will in the past but have never managed to quite get it over the line. The timing now is perfect, though. He’s a natural left sided player who can play either at left back or left wing back which gives us options, but is also gives us balance. It also gives us the experience we’ve been looking for in that area. He’s a great lad and I’m sure he’ll fit in well with the group. I look forward to seeing him in a Diamonds shirt very soon.”
Will is available for selection for this weekend’s tie in the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands against Loughborough Dynamo.
